Tissawewa Resthouse, Anuradhapura (M, H)
A traditional property in the ‘sacred’ area of Anuradhapura. Unfortunately this means that they are not allowed to build a swimming pool or serve alcoholic drinks. Simple rooms with loads of

Giritale is close to Polonnaruwa. The rooms are stylish, the food excellent (with a good choice for vegetarians), there is a tiered swimming pool and the spa is managed by Angsana Resorts and  Spas. On the banks of the reservoirs wild elephants can be observed in season.

This is a very exclusive hotel set in a vast area of land. As well as elephants, guests may spot a range of wildlife. Naturalists are on hand to take you on nature walks. The rooms are very stylish, extremely spacious and all have a private plunge pool. There is much to see and do in the area as well as within the resort itself (swimming pool, health centre, horse and elephant riding etc) so allow yourself enough time here.
