Kerala is small state by Indian
standards but nevertheless there is plenty to see in this
tropical paradise. Kerala has few historical monuments to
tempt the visitor and the temples are usually closed to
non-Hindus but what Kerala has, in abundance, is scenic
beauty. From the majestic Western Ghat mountains to the
stunning waterways of the Kerala backwaters, not to mention
the 550km of coast, Kerala will not disappoint you. Because
of the variety of landscape, the vibrant culture, the good
range of hotels and the friendly people, Kerala is an
excellent choice for the first time visitor to India.
Note: We have only included the
highlights of Kerala in this website. If you are planning to
spend most of your time in Kerala then you need our

Connections website, which gives a full description of this
state and offers many more hotels..

CENTRAL KERALA,
COCHIN AND THE BACKWATERS |
HOTELS >> |
 |
The port of Cochin is Kerala’s largest city, famous for
trading in spices. It has a busy harbour, plenty of visitor
attractions and a good range of hotels. The Backwaters are a
network of waterways running south from Cochin and offer an
insight into village life, especially from the bows of a
houseboat.

NORTHERN KERALA,
CALICUT AND THE MALABAR COAST |
HOTELS >> |
 |
Northern Kerala is not visited by many tourists and
accommodation is limited. However, there are some excellent
homestays offering a very personal insight to this rural
region.
These majestic and impressive mountains host numerous
National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries. Periyar (near the
town of Thekkady) is one of the largest and the most
accessible. The few tigers in Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary are
rarely seen but the bird life is excellent and there is a
good chance of seeing elephant, bison, deer, monkey, otter
and squirrel.
