Goa is the most northerly of the southern states. It is famous for its beaches, markets and nightlife and also offers a wide range of hotels. Goa was colonised by the Portuguese in early 16th Century and not ‘liberated’ from Portuguese rule until 1961. The architecture (especially in the state capital of Panaji) reflects this. In the 1960s Goa was a major stop on the ‘hippy trail’ and now it is mostly visited by package tourists.

If you are interested in visiting the ancient sites of Karnataka, you may like to consider starting your holiday in Goa, as suggested in our Deccan Discovery Tour..
