Known as the very heart of India,
Madhya Pradesh has no coast and is bordered by five other
states. It offers historical sites and temples as well as
some of the best National Parks for seeing wildlife. M.P. is
not difficult to get to; it is not far south of Delhi and
has a number of domestic airports and rail links, but
overland travel by car can be arduous because the roads are
in a dreadful state of repair. However, if you like to take
‘the road less travelled’, are interested in culture or want
the chance to see a wild tiger, then you must visit Madhya
Pradesh.
Gwalior has excellent rail links with Delhi and nearby Agra.
The old city is dominated by the Fort which is considered to
be one of the finest citadels of India.

The small and friendly town of Orchha was once an ancient
capital city. Now it is just a few streets full of ancient
palaces, temples, chhatris (cenotaphs), lively markets and
friendly people. This is a great place to stop for a night
or two and breaks up the journey between Agra and Khajuraho
and the wildlife parks of Madhya Pradesh.
The beautiful National Park at Bandhavgarh is claimed to
have the highest density of tigers anywhere in the world.
However, it also has a wide variety of birds and other
mammal species. Spotting any wildlife is always a random
affair and you should be happy with whatever you are lucky
enough to see. Bandhavgarh is part of Project Tiger.
Kanha National Park is one of India’s largest parks and
is also one of the most scenically beautiful with forest,
grassland, lakes and streams. It is also part of Project
Tiger. Although fairly remote and difficult to get to it is
well worth a visit.
Located just 32km from Khajuraho by the Ken River, the
National Park of Panna is home to a variety of wildlife
including tiger, leopard, deer and a large variety of birds.
