The cuisine of the Indian subcontinent is well known and
very popular in the UK. However, after visiting India and
eating a ‘real’ curry you may find the local ‘take away’
loses its appeal. There are regional differences. In the
North, Indian breads often accompany a rich curry made with
ghee and yoghurt; in the South much more rice is eaten and
the curries are often coconut based. The food of Sri Lanka
has its own style but is similar to South Indian cuisine. If
you are visiting the subcontinent it helps if you like
curry, but you will find that the larger hotels offer some
continental (and sometimes Chinese) dishes as well.
Vegetarians and vegans will find it very easy to eat here,
particularly in the south. |
